FLY FISHERS – WE’VE GOT A LOT GOING ON. MARK YOUR CALENDARS!
Outdoor First Aid Training will be held at Camp Balboa this Saturday, Feb 17 at 10:00am. For any San Diego Fly Fisher members interested, we will present a Basic First Aid clinic covering how to treat simple injuries that may arise while outdoors. Topics will include assessing the situation; wounds and bleeding; and sprains and fractures. The class will begin at 10:00 am at the San Diego Imperial Council Boy Scout Headquarters at Balboa Park. We will meet up at Atherton Hall. The address is 1207 Upas Street, San Diego. This will be “Hands On” clinic. For any questions, please contact Steve Vissers at membership@sandiegoflyfishers.
A Surf Fishing Clinic will be held Saturday Feb 24th at Belmont Park, in South Mission Beach. Please be set up and ready to start the clinic at 6:30am. If you plan to attend, send an email to Paul Woolery at firstname.lastname@example.org. Attendees will receive the schedule and an information sheet via return email. Craig Smith will lead the clinic. Refreshments will be served after the clinic.
Our next club meeting is Monday, March 5th. The guest speaker is a true Eastern Sierra local, Jarett Coons. Born in Bishop California, he has spent his life fishing the warm and cold waters from Lone Pine to Bridgeport. He opened Sierra Mountain Trout Guide Service in 2009. Now he can be found guiding his home waters for trout, carp, bass and bluegill. Jarett has an extensive knowledge of the Eastern Sierra waters he grew up on and offers everything from warm water fly fishing to drifting the beautiful Owens River for trout. On March 5th Jarett will be talking about the amazing warmwater fly-fishing opportunities in the Owens Valley. He will focus on a few of his favorite places to chase carp, large and smallmouth bass, and breakdown some of the rods, rigs and flies used for success in the Owens Valley.
The Trout In The Classroom release is tentatively scheduled for 10am on March 9th at Lake Murray. If you are interested in helping with this event, contact Gary Strawn at conservation@sandiegoflyfisher
Planning for the annual club fundraiser is already underway. If you are available to help with letter stuffing the second week of March, please contact Mike Gilroy or Tim Huckaby.
